Prior to entering the Ajax improvement framework, Van Axel Dongen, an Almere local, played youth football with Zeeburgia and OSV Amsterdam. He signed his first professional contract with the team in September 2020. He made his debut for Jong Ajax as a starter on May 7, 2021, when the team coached by Mitchell van der Gaag drew 1-1 with De Graafschap at halftime.

Kian Fitz-Jim assisted Van Axel Dongen, who scored just before halftime. In the 62nd minute, Nordin Musampa took his place.

Van Axel Dongen was awarded the Abdelhak Nouri trophy as the Ajax junior player of the year for the 2020–21 season.

Van Axel Dongen has long been predicted to be a star. In 2021, he was awarded the coveted Abdelhak Nouri Award given to the academy’s best prospects. Ryan Gravenberch and Matthijs de Ligt, both ex-players of the club, were the past victors.

Axel Dongen: Ajax academy’s wonder talent

He has played multiple times for Ajax across all age classifications, counting 17 objectives and 7 helps. The 18-year-old, who was previously on Chelsea’s radar, likes to work on the left wing but appreciates cutting in onto his right foot.

The top target for Manchester United

The summer transfer market will be busy for Manchester United, and Erik ten Hag may be able to use his connections at Ajax to sign young talent.

Ten Hag left the Dutch powerhouses last year to join United, but he used his time there to his advantage in the transfer window. In the summer, United spent more than £140 million to acquire Ajax players Antony and Lisandro Martinez, and they have expressed interest in returning to Amsterdam this year to acquire additional players.

Axel Dongen: Style of play:

“He is quick, has great technique, and has great vision.” He is a very special player, mainly because he can control the ball under pressure in small spaces. Ouaali stated this in an interview with Ajax TV in the summer.

Dongen, on the other hand, is a young forward with a long road ahead of him. However, if he keeps up his consistency, he will undoubtedly advance over time and could end up among the best young forwards.
